As part of our commitment to supporting the local community, the British Engines Group sponsors breakfast clubs at two North East primary schools to help local children get a nutritious start to their day.
In partnership with the Greggs Foundation, we provide funding to two primary schools located in the East end of Newcastle: St. Vincent’s RC Primary School and Walkergate Community School. The support enables each school to run a free, daily breakfast club by providing fresh bread from Greggs and a grant to help with start-up and ongoing costs.
To celebrate our 100 year anniversary, members of the British Engines team visited the schools to ask the children to design posters showing what they think the world will be like in 100 years’ time.
In total, over 260 posters were submitted by children from both schools, making it very difficult to choose just one winner from each!
Alison Young, Headteacher at Walkergate Community School said: “The children loved taking part in the competition. It’s important for the children to have an opportunity to produce work for different audiences and competitions are a great way for them to do this!”
After much deliberation, Olivia, aged 9, from St. Vincent’s RC Primary School and Noah, aged 7, from Walkergate Community School were chosen as the winners. Olivia and Noah won a Kindle for kids, a Greggs voucher and a Greggs’ Foundation Hope mascot badge; which is only awarded to those who have gone ‘above and beyond’.
The winning posters, along with some runners-up, will be displayed across all of the British Engines Group sites, shown at our companywide 100 years celebration event at the Sage in September, shared on our social channels and featured in our company newsletters.
Angela Ness, Headteacher at St. Vincent’s RC Primary School said: “The generous support St. Vincent’s receives from British Engines and Greggs allows us to provide a fabulous service for our families whilst giving our pupils a fantastic start to the school day. The fact that over 90 children attend each day shows just how successful and appreciated the breakfast club is. Thank you!”
On behalf of everyone at the British Engines Group, we would like to thank the children for taking part and providing us with so many fantastic poster designs to choose from. It was an honour to share our 100 year celebrations with you all and we hope Olivia and Noah enjoy their prizes!
