Graduate Sales Engineer, Jonny, joined group company, BEL Engineering in September 2022. We caught up with him to find out about life after university and his journey so far at the British Engines Group.
How did your journey begin?
I studied Mechanical Engineering at Manchester University before going on to complete a Master’s Degree in Renewable Energy at Northumbria University. I saw that the British Engines Group had a number of graduate positions available after I graduated and joined BEL Engineering later that year.
I’ve always been fascinated by how the world was created with the power of engineering and continuing innovation. I decided to study engineering because it will always be needed and is constantly evolving and changing which hopefully means there will opportunities at every corner for progression!
How have you found being a graduate at the British Engines Group?
It’s been an amazing opportunity! In only five months I feel like I’ve levelled up a lot, I’ve picked up more knowledge and improved my terminology.
Being within a company that operates in a range of crucial and innovative sectors has really helped propel my development on the foundations that my degree already provided.
How is it working in a business compared to university?
I learnt a lot at university but doing practical tasks has really benefitted me, especially when I am working and learning from people who are high up in their field. The people here have made a massive difference in helping me grow and progress in my role, even within a short amount of time.
What is the best thing about your role?
The best thing in my opinion is being a part of a big group of companies and great people! There’s so much to learn and so many opportunities across the companies.
What do you want to do in the future?
I’d like to keep developing in my current role and picking up more technical and personal skills. After that, I’ll hopefully start working my way up within the engineering department!
